A political war of words has erupted over Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s recent statement about Amritsar Airport. Mann claimed that Punjab is being unfairly defamed and described Amritsar Airport as the closest Indian airport to the United States.
Responding to this, the BJP criticized the statement, calling it “irresponsible.” A BJP spokesperson said, “The Chief Minister should verify facts before making such claims. There is no intent to defame Punjab, but describing Amritsar Airport as closest to the US is laughable.”
In his remarks, CM Mann had stated, “Certain people are deliberately tarnishing Punjab’s image. Amritsar Airport is well-equipped and deserves more international connectivity.”
However, the BJP alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is making such statements to divert attention from its failures. The party questioned, “Why make such a claim when it is well-known that most flights to the US operate out of Delhi and Mumbai?”
The issue has also sparked a debate on social media. While some people are supporting Mann’s statement, others are calling it far from reality.
This is not the first time Amritsar Airport has been at the center of a political controversy. The demand for prioritizing the airport for international flights has been a longstanding issue. However, Mann’s remarks have brought it into the national spotlight once again.
